My ExperienceI’ve been a professional private art tutor for more than 8 years, having taught hundreds of art students. I’ve helped students achieve a wide range of accomplishments, from simply improving their skill levels, to being able to support themselves financially with their art skills. In the interest of improving student performance in art-making, I also help with common challenges artists experience such as art block and anxiety. Some of my longest-term student relationships have basically turned into successful mentorships as well. I've mostly taught students in their teens, 20s and 30s.

SchedulingPlease be clear about time zones when specifying time slots. I usually refer to the student’s time zone when discussing scheduling. My availability is usually in the late afternoons and evenings EST. I do not work on Saturdays. Students may request a time slot on shorter notice (like less than 24 hours ahead of time) and get a time slot if there is availability.

Materials and AppsI teach 1-hour classes through Google Meets video calls so that students and I may share our screens at the same time. If the student is working on paper or an iPad, they may send me their work through messaging or email for immediate feedback. I use Krita, but students may use any software they are comfortable with or work on paper as long as I’m able to view the student’s artwork for feedback during class. Microphone is required for class, but I won't be using a webcam.

Teaching StyleI teach art at all levels, including absolute beginners. My teaching method does not involve a rigid pre-constructed syllabus or anything like that. We will only work on what the student is most interested in. To make the best use of our time together, I recommend that students have work ready to show (doodles, rough sketches, works in progress or complete) for feedback, but there’s no requirement for it. Classes typically involve the creation and revision of artwork, but students may also treat it as a Q&A or lecture session. I do not assign homework, as I believe artists should cultivate a healthy, authentic sense of self-motivation. I only give strong suggestions, given the goal of the artist. I also have no expectations for students to produce work outside of classes. I’m only here as a guide when an artist seeks guidance.Please also let me know if you or the student is 17 or below so that I can be mindful of our lesson content.

First lesson is $70/hour if it is a one-time payment. Standard lessons after the first lesson are typically $90/hour.The following packages are currently being offered for new and returning students.Packages offered (must be paid for upfront):

10-lesson package for $640Payments can be made through Paypal or Ko-fi. Prices are in USD.Note that prices may change according to supply and demand.

Classes should be paid for at least 24 hours before the scheduled time. Cancellations and reschedules done less than 24 hours before the scheduled time are considered late. Late cancellations, reschedulings and no-shows will incur a cancellation fee in the form of that lesson being charged for in full. The terms of service apply when lessons are scheduled. Time will not be made up for student lateness.
